FINALS RUN DOWN!

If you were wondering what happened in the finals this year well this is what I know of it.

Week 1

A Grade

Elimination Final Jacks & Kitty's vs. Warriors: After some very good late season form the Warriors just couldn't come up with the fire power to overcome a determined Jacks & Kitty's outfit. From what I seen of the contest the j & K's played very well indeed final result 5/2.

Qualifying Final Workers Club vs. Red Backs: With the Workers club finishing minor premiers it was down to what really counts FINALS! After starting well the workers faded in the middle section of the game after some brilliant darts from the Red Backs. It must be said that the Red Backs were ready for the Workers and won every big moment of the game, none bigger than when it came down to four all Dave Anderson took on Brett for a place in the granny with the curse of the workers choking that is what Brett did choke and Silver pounced and put his team into a Grand Final 5/4.

B Grade

Game 1 Rattlers vs. Crusaders: These two are very evenly matched sides and the score line at the end of the one suggested just that, not sure exactly what happened but I know it was close all night, Jason and Adrian both playing well for the crusaders and Mark and Doug playing well for the Rattlers with Doug beating Michael in the last game to win the first out of the best of three decider 5/4.

Week 2

A Grade

Preliminary Final Workers Club vs. Jacks & Kitty's: With that chokers noose tightening around the neck of the Workers it was now or never for them and as for the J & K's they came into the contest with plenty of confidence. However it was the Workers who put the choking behind them this week and played out of their skins to win the contest 5/2. Both Garry Maher & Max Shelton played very well for the J & K's but overall the workers were too strong on the night.

B Grade

Game 2 Rattlers vs. Crusaders: I don't have a score sheet for this game but I do know that the Crusaders got home 5/4 what a great win for them and sets up a great Grand Final between the two this Wednesday night so I will do a comprehensive write up for that to make up for not having much for this game.

A GRADE GRAND FINAL!

Red Backs vs. Workers Club (Game by Game run down)

These two sides couldn't be any more different Red Backs are filled with players that have won the Esk premiership many times over the past five or six years as opposed to the Workers who on many occasions been the best side during the home & away season and get to the granny and lose. Since 2002 the players from the workers club have been runners up 7 times so these two are polls apart, so here is how it unfolded.

Goldie & Lorraine Defeated Craig & Pauline: 2/1 Close game but Goldie & Lorraine too strong.

Brett & Gary Defeated Dean & Glen: 2/1 could have gone either way great game.

Silver & Salty Defeated Ben & Ted: 2/1 Ben & Ted had chances silver played very well.

Tony Defeated Lorraine: 2/1 very close contest Lorraine played well but Tony had too much poise.

Gary Defeated Goldie: 2/0 Gary played very well in a big game Goldie couldn't get going.

Marg Defeated Glen: 2/1 what a game Marg played out of her skin Glen very unlucky.

Brett Defeated Salty: 2/1 Brett was choking but hung on Salty couldn't get going.

FINALLY THE WORKERS HAVE DONE IT! After being 2/1 down after the doubles and it was looking as though it was going to go south again this time they stood up and made a stand winning four straight singles to break a nine year drought. Red Backs did their best but it just wasn't their night but they have been a very successful side over a long time. You may at this point be wondering why I would bother going to all this trouble for this grand final and not others and no it's not just because it is my team that won, but the lack of interest shown at the end of the night. With no presentation no words from our President on congratulations to the winning side, so we left with an empty felling and nothing to show for our efforts I find it disgraceful but we know that we were the best side all year in a very close fought season. Congratulations to everyone that competed this year and hope to see you all back next year, there will be the same sort of write up for the B Grade next week.
